Local 5 is proud to offer scholarship opportunities to members in good standing and their children. In order to be eligible, an applicant must be enrolled in, or intend to enroll in, an accredited college or technical school in 2015. Scholarships will be awarded based on an essay submitted by the applicant. By applying for a scholarship, applicants agree that their essay may be published in USW newsletters or websites.
This year the following scholarships may be awarded: 1 @ $2,500 1 @ $1,000 3 @ $500
How to Apply:
Complete the Application Form below and mail it with your essay and documentation of enrollment.
Compose an essay between 500 - 1,000 words, double spaced, and typed in 12 point font. Include an introduction, body and conclusion. Five sources of information must be cited in footnotes; three of which must be non-internet. Wikipedia may not be used as a source. Include a bibliography. Your essay should be to the point, clear and free from grammatical errors. Your topic is:
Assume your reader knows what Fast Track Authority is, and answer the following question:
“Is Fast Track Authority bad for workers?”
Do not put your name on the essay. Essays will be judged by an independent panel selected by the Trustees. The Application Form, documentation and essay must be postmarked no later than July 15, 2015, and mailed to:

Scholarship winners will be announced at the August 4, 2015 membership meeting. The decision of the Trustees will be final. Scholarships will be distributed to the school on behalf of the recipient.
